Candice Pinto is a seasoned name on the Indian fashion runway, ever since her debut almost 2 decades ago, she has managed to garner and retain the supermodel status in the industry. Having been a part of coveted campaigns and fashion shows, Pinto has managed to stride with style in every ensemble adorned by her. As a part of the #iamfsp2.0 t-shirt campaign, Candice talked about what it takes to be a successful model in India and how much of a role does social media popularity play in a model’s career.
1) WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A MODEL?
“Actually, I never really planned on becoming a model, it happened by chance. My inspiration has always been my mother, but since fashion came along while I was graduating, I took it as a challenge and now it’s been 2 decades and here I am, proud to be a part of the fashion industry.”
2) TELL US ABOUT YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCE ON A FASHION SHOOT AND A FASHION SHOW
“My first experience in the fashion show was when I won the Gladrags Mega Model India, and then I was the first Indian to win Miss Tourism worldwide, it was a great achievement for me. The first photo-shoot was directly after the contest and it is still one of my most amazing experiences.”
3) WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL MODEL IN INDIA?
“Whether it’s India or abroad you need determination, passion and that drive otherwise you can’t play your cards very well.”
4) DOES SOCIAL MEDIA POPULARITY PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN A MODEL’S CAREER TODAY?
“Back in the day I wouldn’t say so, but over the last few years, social media has taken places, everyone around the world have become close, everyone knows what everyone is doing, It’s a great platform to know what everyone is doing in your vicinity.”
5) HOW IS MODELLING DIFFERENT NOW FROM A DECADE AGO?
“I think back in the day knowledge of fashion was very limited, even if you wanted to know the medium was very small and the travel was very expensive. Now after social media has opened its window, I think everyone knows what everyone is doing and everyone is more experienced and exposed to what’s happening internationally. I think the market has become smarter now.”
