HEMANGI PARTE

Model Hemangi Parte has been a regular on the Indian runway for the longest time; she has modelled for prestigious brands and has been a part of the innumerable designer campaigns in her vast stretch of withstanding career. In a detailed conversation with The Peacock Magazine for the launch of the #iamfsp2.0 t-shirt, we asked Hemangi about her stance on inclusivity in fashion and what are the myths about the modeling world that she would like to bust.

1) WHEN DID YOU FIRST START MODELING AND HOW WE’RE YOU SCOUTED?
“I first started modeling 7 years back through inter-college fashion shows, then I started doing smaller shows after which I was scouted, and boom, then I was at fashion week.”

2) WHAT ARE THE MODERN-DAY CHALLENGES A MODEL FACE?
“I think keeping fit, keeping yourself up-to-date about everything right from hair to shoes to nails, basically everything.”

3) WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT SIZE, RACE AND COLOUR INCLUSIVITY IN WORLD FASHION, AND DO YOU THINK INDIAN FASHION IS ALSO HEADING IN THE SAME DIRECTION?
“100% I see different shapes, sizes, colours and races on the Indian runway and it’s amazing. I think since part 3 years I’ve seen a huge change and people are welcoming this change, people want to see this change, and people outside the runway are diverse so why shouldn’t it be seen on the ramp.”

4) MODELLING IS PRECONCEIVED AS A GLAMOROUS JOB, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY ABOUT THAT?
“It is glamorous only on the outside on the inside there’s lots of hard work. There’s hard work everywhere and modeling shouldn’t be exempted. It is glamorous, we get to wear the most amazing clothes, accessories, shoes but there’s a lot of hard work behind it.”

5) IF THERE IS ONE THING YOU COULD CHANGE ABOUT THE MODELLING AND FASHION INDUSTRY IN INDIA, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
“Paying by the hour, I would really appreciate that, I would be very rich.”
