While most young adults her age are trying to influence people in the stream of fashion and beauty, Saher wanted to reroute her direction and school people about social and political issues that are prevalent in the country. Coming from a political family, she found it important to create awareness about subjects that are often neglected and to practice what she preaches; Saher started a YouTube channel to address the pressing concerns of the nation. At the #iamfsp2.0 t-shirt campaign launch, Saher Bhamla spoke about the social issues she’s passionate about and how constructive has social media been in her journey of educating impressionable minds.
1) WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE A PLATFORM TO TALK ABOUT SOCIAL AND POLITICAL ISSUES?
“So I’ve been watching a lot of fashion and beauty bloggers, who influence people with their style, which is great but I wanted to do something beyond that and talk about social and political issues and create awareness about that. The youth of the country needs to be aware of what’s happening around them and that’s what I’m trying to do with my blog.”
2) HOW HAS SOCIAL MEDIA HELPED YOU CREATE AWARENESS ABOUT IMPORTANT SUBJECTS?
“Social media has made knowledge accessible to people and we should use it constructively. For example, So if through my blog I’m able to reach out to even 20 people, and if I’m able to convince them to take care of the environment, be politically aware and be a good citizen by casting their vote, then I think I’m using social media in the most resourceful way.”
3) WHAT ARE THE SOCIAL TOPICS YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT?
“I started being socially aware in grade 5, and my father helped me with it. I always wanted to have my business, but my dad asked me to give it a month and it changed my perspective. The core thing what Bhamla foundation works for is the environment and spastic kids. There’s nothing more important to me working on these issues.”
