Fashion and photography weren’t interesting for Luis Monteiro until he was 22. But after meeting his mentor, Luís Fardilha, at a one-week photography course at the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth in Portugal, he set out to become one of the best fashion photographers of today. The self-made photographer today has a rich repertoire of fashion shoots spanning across a variety of countries and magazines. There’s a sense of timeless elegance that his images exude, owing to the striking usage of colours and finding a middle ground between fantasy and reality.

A Central Saint Martins graduate, he has worked with top brands like M.A.C Cosmetics, Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar. Rai, who recently ventured into bridal styling with his company ‘The Wedding Project’, styled Falguni Shane Peacock’s pretwear edit, Ashen Roses, unveiled at Lakmē Fashion Week, 2025.
